05/18/2012 - "Art in the Heart" Friday, May 18th, 6-9 pm ***Summer is almost here. And we hope you spend some of it in the Heart of Centerville. *** This Friday, May 18th begins our 2012 series of summer evenings, 3rd Fridays After Hours. We encourage everyone to come out from 6 to 9 pm to enjoy the first of four, "Art in the Heart."*** The Heart of Centerville is partnering with the Centerville Arts Commission to put on this free community event. We will feature a group of local artists scattered throughout the one block area surrounding the corner of Main St. and Franklin St. The goal is to not only show and sell art, but to draw people into the artist's individual creative process. ***The artists will be outside the area businesses, demonstrating their art. Many will also offer interactive experiences. There will be painters, jewelry artists, and sculptors. Square One Salon will demonstrate hair art, and Creative Quilters, a local quilting group, will offer an opportunity to create quilt squares to be used in the quilts they make for charity. *** While enjoying the evening, come by the Centerville Arts Commission?s booth in the Square One parking lot, and learn more about what other exciting programs they plan and sponsor. They are a long established group that works to highlight the artistic talent and to organize art events in our community. *** Also, visit the shops and businesses in the Heart of Centerville. They will be open late with shopping specials and refreshments. It is an opportunity to take the evening to leisurely stroll the shops, instead of always busily driving by. *** The HOC is a group of 80+ local businesses working together to support each other in our successes and to engage the community to join us in highlighting our hometown pride. The member businesses see the annual 3rd Fridays events as a way of giving back. Non profit groups always benefit from our efforts. We also seek to establish the area as a shopping, dining, and entertainment destination. *** So come out this 3rd Friday night to enjoy "Art in the Heart" and to see us in action!
